Kickoff 2014 with Two Wins

The Powassan Eagles kicked off 2014 with a busy three game weekend. Two games against the defending Russell Cup Champion Bradford Rattlers and one against the Rama Aces saw the Eagles snag an impressive four points.

Counting down to the final stretch, Powassan is right in the middle of the pack and have an opportunity to climb several spots in the standings.

As mentioned, first up the Eagles hosted the powerhouse Bradford Rattlers. The entire Eagles squad played unbelievable to take the Rattlers to overtime and shootout, before Dryden Sollman scored the SO winner. Final score of the game was 7-6 Eagles. Newly signed goaltender Chisato Suzuki got the start between the pipes and stood on his head. He made 58 saves and was named first star of the game. It was a balanced scoring effort from all parts of the line-up. Eagles scorers included: Krepelka (2), Hart, Pejsa, Alferov, Godin and Sollman's shootout winner.

Coming off one of the biggest wins on the season, Powassan was right back at it the on Saturday hosting the Rama Aces. The Aces themselves are having a strong season sitting in the top half of the standings. Powassan had another strong night to take down Rama 3-2 in regulation. Once again, it was the Eagles goaltender who stole the show. Marek Korduliak had a 63 save performance and was the first star. Krepelka, Klempa and Hollige each scored for Powassan.

After a long, tough home-stand, Powassan hit the road to take on the Bradford Rattlers once again. The Eagles fatigue showed, dropping the game 12-0.

Powassan has another big three game weekend upcoming. Two road games on Friday and Saturday against the Toronto Attack and Bracebridge Phantoms respectively will kick off the weekend. On Sunday (Jan 12), the Knights of Meaford will be in Powassan. Puck drop is 2:30pm at the Powassan Sportsplex.
