May 22, 2015

The Parry Sound Islanders are pleased to welcome our recent tenders and 2015 draft picks to our organization. We have brought a great deal of skill and experience to the team already heading into our second season. The staff and management are very happy to announce the following players:

Tenders

Everett Calendine:

Calendine is a 1998 goalie from Florida who has been tendered with the Islanders. He brings a season of Jr A experience to the team having played last year with the Alpena Flyers of the MWJHL. He is a quick goalie who relies on his agility and speed in the net to make an impact in each and every game.

Draft Picks

Brendan Borg:

Borg is a 1998 defenseman who most recently played for the Michigan Warriors U18 AAA team in Michigan. We expect Brendan to to be an impact player with the Islanders in the future with his strong skating ability and uncanny ability to create time and space on the ice. He also has a terrific skill set as a defenseman that will be very valuable to our club in Parry Sound.

Alain Roy:

Roy most recently played high school hockey in the North Bay, Ontario area for Franco Cite. The 1998 birth year forward has great size and strength on the puck which is expected to make him a fan favorite in Parry Sound. His tremendous worth ethic and never quit attitude on the ice will be exactly what the Islanders need as the organization continues to grow in its second season. He performed very well for the Islanders prospects team in the Michigan Pre Draft showcase and the drew the attention of many people at the tournament. Roy should be a strong asset in the future for the organization.

Kyle Doherty:

Doherty has been developing into a top Islanders prospect since last season when he joined the team shortly for a portion of the teams training camp. Being a local player he knows what it means to compete for Parry Sound and is a very coachable player with the ability to control a game with his strength on the puck. We expect Doherty to make an immediate impact in the Islanders line up.

Alex Obery:

Obery is a 1996 born forward and hails from a rare hockey background, growing up playing in South Africa and most recently representing his country at the highest level in the World Championships. Alex has a strong skating ability and can be a dominate forward at the GMHL level. We are excited to welcome him to the team.

Sam Patrick:

Patrick played last season for the Jimmy Johns AAA organization in the Metro Detroit area. As a 1998 forward he possesses all the skills to be a top player in the GMHL next season and was a huge first round pick up for the Islanders. The organization and staff are extremely excited to have the ability to draft such an impact player and look forward to seeing Sam in an Islanders jersey next season.

Jesse Jones:

Jones is a 1996 forward that spent last season with one of the top Midget teams in Michigan, the Troy Sting. Competing in the USA Hockey National U18 tournament his quick feet and accurate shot highlighted his on ice play and his compete level throughout the tournament was also top notch. A player like this will be a pleasure for fans to watch next season in the Islanders colors.
